ACCO TruSens Z-2000 Air Purifier Review (Z2000AU) – Do you actually care with the air you and family members breathe?
Many people are’nt aware with the sheer number of pollutants and harmful particles inside the house. Most would think that the air inside is much cleaner than the outside.
While that statement is not entirely wrong, it’s also not entirely correct. There will be dust, pollen, pet dander (if you have a pet), VOC gases, and more pollutants in the air you breathe indoor than you think.
The ACCO TruSens Z-2000 Air Purifier is an excellent air purifier that monitor and purify the air within the room it’s placed in.
The Z-2000 is the model designed for a medium-sized room but you can also get the Z-1000 for smaller rooms or the Z-3000 for bigger living areas.
The ACCO TruSens Air Purifiers are designed so that you can move them between rooms by grabbing the handle on the top. While the unit looks really big, it’s actually not heavy and I had no sweat moving it around my double-storey house up and down.
The packaging comes with SensorPod Air Quality Monitor and as the name suggests, it’s basically a sensor that monitors the air quality in the room. While most air purifiers have built-in monitors inside the body like the Dyson Hot+Cool Link Air Purifier, the TruSens has a different approach by having it separate.
According to ACCO, this approach allows for a more accurate reading and it makes sense. Most purifiers have the sensor built into the unit and obviously, the cleanest air in the room will be in the vicinity of the air purifier unit itself. TruSens’ sensor can be placed in the middle of the room for example, which will then provide a more accurate reading.
The SensorPod has to be plugged to a wall socket though, so its placement in the room may somewhat be limited.
The SensorPod will measure dust, allergens, and common pollutants in the room (both small particles (PM2.5) and larger (PM10)) using an infrared sensor. I believe it doesn’t have a VOC sensor on it even though the Z-2000 unit itself can capture VOC gases/odours. This is because I tried farting (yes, I know, right?) directly at the SensorPod and nothing happened. Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link Air Purifier on the other, responsded instantly thanks to its built-in VOC sensor:
The readings will then be pushed to the TruSens Air Purifier unit. You can see the air rating on the unit display – which is measured from 0 to 100 (the lower, the better air quality).
There is also a quick colour-coded illuminated ring which will turn Yellow or Red, which directly attracts your attention if the air condition changes.
If you set the machine to Auto (as you should), the air purifier will automatically increase the fan speed to further suck bad air and expel good air. Most of the time, you don’t really need to touch the controls apart from turning the machine on and off.
Unlike fans-based air purifiers, the air coming out of the TruSens Z-2000 doesn’t blow directly to your face, but can still give a colder feel in the room during Winter.
The touch controls are easy to use and you can change a few settings directly on the unit. I literally never touched the manuals at all thanks to the ease of use. You can dim the display for sleeping, set a timer to let it run for X amount of hours, and has indicators when you need to replace your filters or the UV lamp.
But how good is the air coming out of the TruSens Z-2000? Well, the 360-degree DuPont HEPA filter captures pollutants and VOC gases/odours in vicinity and there is an extra UV light (can be disabled) which kills germs and bacteria that may get trapped in the filter. So yeah, very good.
I have a dust & dust mites allergy, plus hayfever (Spring is here) so having the TruSens Z-2000 around is quite handy. The air quality of our house has been pretty good so far though, but who knows when that may change. I’m glad I have this machine around.
The HEPA filter is easily replaceable and depending on how dirty your air is, you may need to replace it every six months or so (or longer).
TruSens Z-2000 Review Conclusion
TruSens Z-2000 Air Purifier reads the air quality in the room more accurately thanks to the dedicated SensorPod – which then will change the fan speed depending on the current air quality, direct air to its filtration system while trapping harmful pollutants, and expels clean air.
It has a huge filtration system and can circulate airflow quicker, thanks to the size and its PureDirect technology which distributes clean air better.
TruSens Z-2000 is easy to use – you pretty much just turn it on and let it do its thing. I do wish it has a scheduling system or can turn and off automatically depending on a minimum air quality that you set. Or perhaps use Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant to do some funky stuffs. But hey, maybe another time.
And oh, it looks really good too in the house! I remember my mom bought me a huge air purifier when I was little and put it next to my bed. It’s big, ugly, and noisy, but hey at least I could breather easier. TruSens Z-2000 looks great, well-designed and crafted, more efficient, and much quieter.
ACCO TruSens Z-2000 is available for purchase at JB Hi-Fi for AU$399. Also available at Amazon U.S.
