Fitbit has just unveiled a new iteration of their Alta line (check our review on Fitbit Alta) with an all new heart rate tracking sensor. A heart rate tracking Fitbit product is not unique, mind you, because we’ve seen it on Fitbit Blaze, or the more recent model, Fitbit Charge 2.
However, adding a heart rate sensor normally makes a unit bulkier – except that this is not the case for the brand new Alta HR. It still has that “slimmest design” motto compared to the other Fitbit models (it is 25% slimmer than the Charge 2).
According to James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit:
“Alta HR and these powerful new sleep features demonstrate our continued focus on evolving our innovative technology to deliver deeper, more actionable insights to help our users improve their health.
The miniaturisation of our PurePulse heart rate technology opens up exciting opportunities for future generations of devices and new form factors. Our advances in sleep will provide millions of users around the globe accessibility to invaluable insights that previously could be obtained only through expensive lab tests.”
Fitbit also announces a new Sleep Stages tracking feature update to all Fitbit Alta HR, Charge 2, and Blaze owners that will be rolling out some time this month. The new feature now utilises heart rate variability to estimate the amount of time you spend in light, deep and REM sleep stages.
With these new information, Fitbit can further make suggestions to improve your personal health based on the activities and the new data, such as by changing your sleeping habit and lifestyle.
A variety of accessories are also available for your Alta HR devices (which also fit on the original Alta):
- Classic trackers with black, blue gray, fuchsia or coral classic fitness wristbands and matching aluminum buckle.
- Special Edition trackers in soft pink classic band with 22k rose gold plated tracker and black classic band with matte gunmetal tracker.
- Luxe leather collection in brown, indigo and lavender with matching buckle.
- Luxe stainless steel bracelet that can stack with your other jewelry.[xv]
- Designer collections from PUBLIC SCHOOL, Simply Vera Vera Wang and soon from Tory Burch.
