Hearthstone: The Great Dark Beyond Expansion is Live

The next Hearthstone’s expansion, The Great Dark Beyond has gone live and as always, it brings a lot of new cards and mechanics into the game. For a start, it comes with 145 new cards that you can use to either improve your current decks or completely create new ones.

As for other new mechanics, this current expansion comes with Draenei cards, Starships building, and the comeback of Spellburst cards.

The Draenei are new type of minions and looks like they are going to be permanently added in the game. Many of the Draenei cards will have more impact with the next Draenei you play, creating a nice combo or chain when the timing is right.

These Draenei cards worthy to be mentioned are Hologram Operator (Gves you 3 random, Temporary Draeneis), Crimson Commander to boost your Draenei cards in hand, Ingenious Artificer that helps you to refresh your Mana Crystals, Arkwing Pilot for Mage, Astral Vigilant (Gets a copy of the last Drenei you played – can be devastating if you’ve just played a powerful Draenei card), Ace Wayfinder (Gain 2 random effects, and also the next Draenei you play), and Unyielding Vindicator.

The best Legendary card if you are playing Draenei is definitely their leader, Velen – which will trigger all Battlecries and Deathrattles of all Dranei you’ve played this game. Very powerful late card indeed which can change the tide of the battle.

Starship is a new keyword and mechanic. You play the Starship Pieces like regular minions but when they die, their stats and effects are automatically added to your Starship construction. You can wait until the perfect moment to “launch” your Starship which basically places the Ship right on the board with all the stats and effects. Cards like Crystal Welder, Laser Barrage, Bad Omen, Barrel Roll, and Suffocate are great examples of Starship cards.

There are also new Starburst cards which surprisingly, still include Libram for the Paladin class (I don’t I’ve seen anyone who is still using Libram decks, but maybe they are in the higher tiers?).

More Demons make it to the expansion as well so if you’ve been enjoying playing the Warlock Hero Class, you might want to add a few into your deck. There are new cards to also summon Demons that are not on your deck like Relentless Wrathguard and Foreboding Flame. Great for those who don’t have all the Demon cards but would love to play them.

Other cards worth mentioning:

  • Eredar Brute: A great minion against Rush decks
  • Red Giant: Great for rush decks or those playing with small mana like the Rogue class
  • Abduction Ray: Excellent value card to get random Demons for Warlock

As always, if you are confused as to how you are going to build your decks for this expansion, feel free to Google around some sites and follow the guides. But I’d always recommend building your own deck (based on what you have) as it is definitely more fun that way.

Legendaries that I got from opening my packs from the Mega Bundle:

You can grab the Great Dark Beyond Tavern Pass or purchase some packs to get these new expansion cards.
