Microsoft releases Photosynth for the iPhone!

Microsoft photosynth

I’m not sure if you are aware of Microsoft Photosynth. Microsoft Photosynth basically combines hundreds of photos of a specific place/event, snapped from different perspectives, and automatically synthesizes them altogether to create a virtual 3D model (like a huge Panorama).

Now, Microsoft has made this cool stitching app available for your iOS devices! Check these 2 screenshots out when I was playing around with the app today (one of them is my bedroom ;))

After you tap the screen, the app automatically starts taking shots while you move your iPhone with the camera around. It’s like taking Panorama photos without having to press the shutter button. The process is seamless and really snappy.

Photo capturing

You can also manually take the shots to complete the missing puzzle (or when the app is having trouble recognizing a scene).

Once you are happy with all the shots, the stitching process begins:

The shot above is perfect and it looks great! I should have taken the Eureka Tower residential apartment (the tall building that gets cut-off in the picture) in full, my mistake. My bedroom shot wasn’t really that good unfortunately but here is my bedroom in 3D :)

iSynthThe application is called iSynth PhotoSynth and available for free on the iTunes store. Have a download and play around with it. It’s not perfect but considering it’s the first version, we can expect more surprises on future updates!

Besides, it’s already cool as it is!
