In quite a surprising move, Evernote has just updated their plans (which includes Free, Plus, and Premium) with higher prices and limited devices on the Free plan.
As most of you (myself included) are probably in the Evernote Free plan, this change will definitely impact the way we use Evernote, and IF we are still going to stay on Evernote.
The pricing and feature changes are:
- On the Free plan: You can now only use Evernote on 2 devices ONLY. Previously, you can “have it everywhere” on multiple devices. It seems that you will still able to access it from the web though (not counted as a “device”), so maybe this is not as bad as I thought it would be.
- On the Plus plan, the price has increased to $3.99/month or $34.99/year
- On the Premium plan, the price has increased to $7.99/month or $69.99/year
According to Evernote, this change is necessary to improve Evernote in the long term with more powerful features and great updates. We totally understand that companies need to make money to grow and pay their staffs.
For someone who uses multiple devices and/or reviewing multiple devices at the same time, however, this is going to be a big deal.
Will you be staying with Evernote? Or will you start paying their Plus/Premium plan? Or will you be leaving Evernote?
If you don’t intend to pay (since there are many great free Evernotes alternatives out there), then perhaps it’s time to start browsing around and migrate your Evernote notes to somewhere else.
Judging from my Twitter feed, looks like people are more likely to leave Evernote behind – Google Docs or Microsoft OneNote might be a good option.
