OClean X Ultra S Electric Toothbrush Review – Smart Brushing Meets Cutting-Edge Tech

The Australian electric toothbrush market has long been dominated by brands like Oral-B and Philips Sonicare (check my review on the iO Series 9 and DiamondClean 9000). However, OClean has emerged as a strong contender. Founded in 2016, Oclean made waves with its X Series, offering smart sonic electric toothbrushes with impressive battery life. Now, at the end of 2024, we have their latest flagship model, the Oclean X Ultra S, which I’ve been testing for a couple of weeks—and I’m pretty impressed with the results.

OcLEAN X ULTRA S REVIEW – PACKAGING CONTENTS

The Oclean X Ultra S comes with a compact travel charging case that’s significantly smaller than my Oral-B’s charging case, and it charges via USB-C too, which is a nice touch. There’s an elegant wall mount included if you prefer to keep your toothbrush off the counter.

OcLEAN X ULTRA S REVIEW – DESIGN AND REVIEW

One of the standout features of the Oclean X Ultra S is its real-time AI Voice Guide. Unlike other brands that use vibrations or LEDs to notify you during brushing, Oclean also opts for subtle voice prompts to guide you through each quadrant of your mouth. I was initially concerned that this might be irritating, but the voice guidance is actually quite subtle, and so far, it’s only chimed in when I needed to switch areas. This AI voice guide can be turned on/off by Oclean Care+ App if you don’t like it.

However, it’s the cleaning efficiency that truly sets the Oclean X Ultra S apart. The brush features a proprietary Maglev 3.0 motor with a TurboClean function, delivering up to 42,000 RPM. For comparison, the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000 offers 31,000 RPM, and while I’m no dentist, I imagine the extra power can only help, especially when you’re focusing on 30-second intervals for each section of your mouth.

The brush handle itself has an interactive touchscreen where you can select brushing modes such as Unlimited Clean, Sensitive Gum Care, and Sunrise Soothing, with a simple swipe gesture (though more often than not I accidentally trigger this while trying to turn the brush on). While the variety of modes is intriguing, I found myself sticking to one standard mode most of the time. The app, which I’ll discuss shortly, lets you customise your brushing time and intensity based on your teeth and gum conditions, so there’s a lot of flexibility if you want to fine-tune your routine.

One of the more impressive aspects of the Oclean X Ultra S is its ability to give detailed feedback after each brushing session. Thanks to an advanced chip and 6-axis gyroscope sensor, the brush provides a 3D model of your teeth appearing on the display, highlighting any areas you’ve missed. I was surprised to see how often I seemed to miss certain spots and appreciated the visual cues to help me improve my brushing technique and habit for next time.

Areas that need more attention are marked in yellow, and anything uncleaned shows up in red (thankfully, I didn’t have any of those). You can also track your brushing history through the app, which logs each session and gives you feedback on your overall brushing performance. It’s like closing rings on Apple Health, but for dental care.

Oclean X Ultra S Review – App Integration

Inside the app, you’ll find even more personalised advice and recommendations to help you improve your brushing technique. You also get a brushing score after each session, which adds a bit of gamification to your daily routine. The app’s detailed insights and tracking capabilities really make it feel like you’re investing in long-term dental health, not just a new gadget.

OCLEAN X ULTRA S REVIEW CONCLUSION

The Oclean X Ultra S is perfect for tech-savvy Australians who want a stylish electric toothbrush with cutting-edge features, without compromising on cleaning power or battery life. Its compact design means you won’t need to clutter your bathroom with a bulky charging dock, and with its long-lasting battery, you won’t need to charge it often anyway.

After diligently using both a water flosser and my previous electric toothbrush, I still found that my dentist would always uncover areas I’d missed. Now, after using the Oclean X Ultra S, I have a better understanding of why. The toothbrush has shown me where I’ve been neglecting certain areas, and I’ve been able to adjust my brushing habits accordingly. For anyone looking to improve their dental routine—and potentially avoid costly dental bills down the track—the Oclean X Ultra S is well worth the investment.

If you don’t really care much about the visual and audio feedback, you’d probably best to opt for their cheaper models and still get as good clean as the Ultra S. But for the best of the best, this is it.

Oclean X Ultra S is available now for purchase in Shaver Shop, Australia, for an RRP of A$449.95.
