Overwatch 2 launches Season 12 with New Support Hero, Cosmetics, Game Mode, Maps, Balance Patches, and more

Overwatch 2 Season 12 is here and after a taste of being able to play the new Support Hero, Juno, players had been itching for the start of the season. There are also other big updates like two new maps in the new Clash game mode, Reaper’s Mythic Skin, Ana’s Mythic Weapon Skin (coming later), and some hero balance updates.

New Support Hero, Juno

Juno is Vietnamese and she’s a Martian (from Mars). If you haven’t, it’s worth watching the touching, emotional origin story of Juno. Juno is a Support Hero, equipped with Mediblaster and Pulsar Torpedoes which allow her to both heal teammates and damage enemies. Rather than switching between weapons to heal and damage, her weapons automatically heal when aimed at a teammate and damage when aimed at an enemy.

The quick, burst fire also makes it easy to play Juno compared to Ana for example, which requires players to have good aiming skills. She has a Hyper Ring ability which accelerates team movements that can be used to engage or retreat. Imagine going through choke points quickly, letting your Reinhardt smash around the enemies’ fortifications, or finishing off staggered enemies quickly.

I also find that her Hyper Ring is great to use when your team loses a battle and you need to get someone (or yourself) to retreat quickly. Her ultimate, Orbital Ray, heals and powers up your teammates which can be a great tool when used properly.

Juno is a great hero to use when you need consistent, quick burst of healing to top up your teammates’ health. Her Pulsar Torpedoes are also great to finish off low health enemies, or a quick burst heals when timed properly.

Reaper’s Mythic Skin

Every season means new Mythic Skin for a Hero, as promised by the Blizzard team. This season, it’s Reaper’s turn and he’ll be getting an Anubis Mythic Skin. It requires a Premium Battle Pass to be able to collect Mythic Prisms and unlock this Mythic Skin. As always, it has a few customisations so you can turn Reaper into the Egyptians’ God of Death (Anubis) or the Sun God Ra.

You’ll have to progress through the Battle Pass tiers to unlock the Mythic Skin.

Ana’s Mythic Midnight Sun Weapon Skin

Later in the season (most likely mid-season 12), there will also be Ana’s Mythic Weapon Skin to grab, similar to Reinhardt’s Bound Demon Mythic Weapon Skin last season. Definitely can’t wait on this one.

New Game Mode, Clash, with Two New Maps

The new Game Mode, Clash, offers both teams to fight over multiple capture points. According to Blizzard, Clash features “5 capture objectives placed in a linear path on a mirrored map. Only one objective is active at a time, and the match starts with Objective C, the centre one. Capture an objective by standing on it uncontested until the capture progress is complete. Teams that capture an objective are awarded 1 point to their score.

The final capture points for each team (A and E) are worth three points that are split up into segments on the capture progress . A win comes when a team reaches five total points from capturing various objectives on the map, or if they manage to push into their opponent’s territory and fully capture the final objective.

It’s a fast-paced type of game mode where the distance between the spawn points and current capture point seems shorter compared to the other traditional game modes. I stumbled upon this game mode once today when I played and quite like it.

The two new maps made for this mode bring back memories from the past. If you played Overwatch 1, you know what I mean because these look like a remake of the old Assault Maps: Temple of Anubis and Hanaoka.
