Overwatch 2 Season 13: No New Heroes and Maps, but Lots of Goodies this Season

The Overwatch 2 Season 13 is here and if you’ve been absent from playing Overwatch 2 (which is free), this might be a good time to return. It has lots of new Halloween skins for your favourite heroes, a Mythic skin for Widowmaker, skins from the My Hero Academia! collaboration, Sombra rework, a fun arcade mode (which seems to be a part of the PvE design that got scrapped) and more.

Let’s start with the skins. Things that got me excited every new season is to be able to collect all the skins for the heroes as much as possible.

My Hero Academia! Collaboration Skins and Goodies

For this collaboration, we’ve got all new skins for Juno (as Uravity), Reinhardt (as All Might), Kiriko (as Himiko Toga), Reaper (as Tomura Shigaraki), and Tracer (as Deku). There are also challenges and rewards that can get you Charms, Sprays, and more. The Overwatch 2 collaboration with My Hero Academia! runs from October 17-30 so if you are into the anime and would like to see your heroes cosplay the characters, this is your chance.

I’d probably love to get a more variety of heroes skins from these collaborations as we’ve seen too many Reinhardt’s and Kiriko’s from the previous collaboration like the World of Warcraft, TRANSFORMERS, and Cowboy Beebop.

But anyhow, these skins are cool and we do need a nice skin for the new hero released last season, Juno.

Season 13 Mythic Skin: Mythic Spellbinder Widowmaker

For this season, it’s turn for Widowmaker to get her Mythic skin. The skin comes with a variety of attire, depending on the tiers of the skin that you can unlock with Mythic Prisms. The final one obviously has the most details with her wings glowing and sparkling, along with other nice finishing touches.

If you have purchased the Premium Battle Pass for this season, you can get up to 80 Mythic Prisms for completing the whole Battle Pass Tiers (so you can unlock the whole attires for the Mythic Spellbinder Widowmaker).

I rarely play her so I’ll probably pass on unlocking this one. Thankfully, you can always unlock it in the future as the Mythic skins are always available to unlock from the Mythic Shop.

Junkenstein’s Laboratory Arcade Mode – A taste of the cancelled PvE modes

New for this Season temporarily (hope they make it permanent though, it’s so fun), the Junkenstein’s Laboratory is a PvP mode with skill mutations on your selected heroes. There are only a few heroes that you can select here, but each one is crafted and designed with mutation skills that make your hero more and more powerful – tuned to your playstyle. You’ll get talent cards on each round that you can pick, and each card will alter your hero abilities.

Some cards are more powerful than others (depending on the rarity levels) and you can swap these around (though will discard the one you are unequipping). The rarity cards are Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary.

For example, as Orisa, you can get extra health if you can connect your Javelin throw successfully. Or as Reinhardt, there’s a talent card where your Fire Strike leaves a trail of scorched enemies on the ground. Or get B.O.B to place a Winston’s shield/bubble around him when he stops – super useful. I also like Soldier 76’s talent where his Biotic Field follows him around and lasts two times longer.

This mode is very fun and I ended up playing it for a while, before I went back to completing my Dailies.

I believe this is a taste of what the team had been working on with the PvE mode that got scrapped last time. It’s definitely a huge thing to work on, especially when you have to take into account newer heroes and the balance of them all. But this is so fun and I love it.

Sombra Rework

Okay we’ve got Sombra being reworked so many times but here’s her latest change:

I honestly don’t know what to say about Sombra and it’s really hard at the moment to play her. Should she stay in the front line? I find that I can get a better value by choosing other heroes for that role. Should she hang around in the backline? There’s that invisibility and Translocator management though, so I don’t know I can be bothered with that.

There also other slight changes and updates to a few other heroes. Here’s the complete patch notes.

Other Things

There are also new Mythic Skin Gilded Aspects Add-on Cosmetic. If you have a fully maxed-out mythic hero skins, you can enhance the skin further with the Gilded Aspects from the Mythic Shop – which features Black and Gold colour variants.

These skins definitely look more awesome with Black and Gold, but they come at an extra price of 20 Mythic Prisms each.
