Overwatch 2’s First Mythic Weapon Skin is here

A Mythic skin (for Overwatch 2 Heroes) is one of the best cosmetic features in Overwatch because it’s not just a mere skin that looks cool. This is because the team spends a lot of time in designing and also making sure that the skin is somewhat customisable, unique to the character, and has some bells and whistles like new animations, voice lines, and special effects.

While Overwatch 2 team made sure that the players got a different Mythic Skin per season, there was another surprise when an announcement was made with the Overwatch 2’s Mythic Weapon Skin.

Similar to a Hero Mythic Skin, a Mythic Weapon Skin is not just for the looks but it brings more to the table. Overwatch 2’s first Mythic Weapon Skin is the Bound Demon Reinhardt Mythic Weapon Skin that brings the coolest weapon to Reindhadrt with three levels of effects to unlock including weapon flourish, elimination effects, and reactive effects.

The Bound Demon is a cursed axe that glows with hellfire. The concept is that the demonic weapon gains more power as you feed it with the body of your enemies (i.e kills) throughout the game. The weapon itself doesn’t grow stronger in the game though, it is just a concept behind the weapon creation.

However, with the new Mythic Weapon Skin, the Bound Demon will have different effects once you rack up your kills and you’ll see ground explosions and other funky effects when you kill someone with the weapon. It’s pretty cool for sure and you can read about the design process from the Overwatch 2 blog here.

You can also inspect the weapon (weapon flourish) by pressing Reload, which makes Reinhardt tosses the weapon a little bit into the air. It suits Reinhardt really well and the animation and execution are designed really well.

To get Reinhardt’s Mythic Weapon Skin, simply go to the Mythic Shop in Overwatch 2. You can get the bundle (which also gives you Battle Bass Tier skips and Overwatch coins) with real money or with 50 Mythic Prisms in-game currency (for the skin itself). If you want more out of the new Mythic Weapon Skin:

  • Spend another 10 Mythic Prism to get Reactivity to evolve your weapon by earning eliminations
  • Spend another 10 Mythic Prism to get the Weapon Flourish
  • Spend another 10 Mythic Prism to get the Kill Effect

You can also try these first before you buy, which is kinda nice. But technically, the weapon skin itself costs 50 Mythic Prism without all the goodies so if that’s what you are after, then you do not need to get the additional bonuses.

We are definitely going to see more of this in the future and hopefully coming to your favourite hero sooner than later!
