SteelSeries has launched its latest innovation: the Apex Pro Gen 3 Series keyboards. Building upon the groundbreaking adjustable actuation technology introduced in 2019, these new models represent a significant leap forward in gaming keyboard design. I’m still using their Apex Pro TKL Wireless (2023) at the moment (check out my review on the keyboard) so an update to already awesome keyboard will be, well, more awesome.
The Apex Pro Gen 3 Series elevates SteelSeries’ reputation for intelligence, speed, and durability. At the heart of these keyboards lies the cutting-edge OmniPoint 3.0 technology, featuring the industry’s first Hall Effect Gen 3 sensor. This advanced technology offers gamers an unprecedented competitive edge, allowing for customisation with 40 adjustable actuation levels ranging from an ultra-responsive 0.1mm to 4.0mm.
One of the standout features is the lightning-fast response time of just 0.54ms, a stark improvement over the 6ms found in standard mechanical keyboards. This speed boost, coupled with switches that are 11 times faster than traditional mechanical ones, provides players with a tangible advantage in high-stakes gaming scenarios.
Intelligence meets speed with the introduction of SteelSeries GG QuickSet. This innovative feature allows gamers to access pre-configured profiles curated by championship-winning professional esports players. These profiles optimise essential settings such as Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, actuation levels, and lighting, streamlining the gaming experience for both novices and professionals alike.
The Apex Pro Gen 3 Series introduces a suite of advanced software features designed to enhance gameplay:
- Protection Mode: This SteelSeries-exclusive feature guards against accidental key presses by reducing the sensitivity of selected surrounding keys, eliminating costly mistakes during crucial moments.
- Rapid Tap: By prioritising the last pressed key in a pair, this feature enables faster input and improved aim, enhancing techniques like counter-strafing and slide-cancelling.
- Rapid Trigger: This function allows for repeated pressing of the same key without waiting for it to return, ideal for situations requiring rapid button spamming.
- GG QuickSet: Offering easy access to optimal settings for various games, this feature adjusts keyboard parameters with just a few clicks, allowing players to focus on the game rather than setup.
The Gen 3 line also boasts significant hardware upgrades, including premium switch stabilisers, factory-lubed switches for a smoother feel, and dampening foam for more satisfying keypresses. The incorporation of “S-Tier” Hall Effect Sensor Gen 3 technology sets a new benchmark for in-game responsiveness.
Available in full-size, TKL (tenkeyless), and TKL Wireless variants, the Apex Pro Gen 3 Series caters to various gaming setups and preferences. The full-sized model serves as a versatile all-rounder, while the TKL designs offer increased desk space and portability.
As a long-time gamer, I find the level of customisation and precision offered by these keyboards truly impressive. The ability to fine-tune actuation levels and access pro-grade presets could be a game-changer for competitive players looking to optimise their performance.
The Apex Pro Gen 3 Series is now available through SteelSeries.com and various retailers worldwide.
