Did you know that your phone is ten times dirtier than a toilet seat (according to research)? Considering you are using it every hour and minute of the day, we should be washing our hands more often!
But if you are of the lazy type, a new health-tech startup company based in Singapore might have just created the perfect gadget for you: a phone sanitiser that kills 99.9% of germ with UV technology.
The UV Phone Sanitizer interestingly doesn’t just sanitise your smartphone, but can also be used to sanitise other daily items like your keys, jewellery, toys, or even reusable masks. If they are small enough to be placed inside the UV Phone Sanitizer, you can sanitise them.
Using an innovative technology called Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) that kills microorganisms at a cellular level by disrupting their DNA, this handy gadget can eliminate germs easily. Note that this technology is being used as well in hospitals and many other areas.
In Singapore, UV disinfecting mobile robots are even used in shopping malls, healthcare and transport sectors to combat COVID-19. Here is a page explaining how the technology works scientifically.
The way it sanitises your phone is by placing your phone inside the case and let the UV lights do the work. The lid cover is translucent, so you will still be able to see notifications on your phone while it’s being sanitised.
The sanitising process normally takes around 15 minutes to complete, though this depends on where you plug the UV Phone Sanitiser to. Once you press the button, the countdown timer will be displayed. Interestingly, if I plug it to a USB powerboard, the counter was reduced by only 5 minutes even whe 10 minutes have passed. Using the Zendure Passport II Pro, the counter was reduced by 8 minutes even when 10 minutes have passed.
In a way, it’s not something that you’d probably pay attention to. You simply place your phone (or other items) inside the sanitising unit, press the button, and just leave it be.
Plus, you can always open the case to automatically stop the process if you need the phone for something so you don’t have to wait for the whole process to finish.
The UV Phone Sanitizer has a wireless charging pad so your phone will be charged too while it’s being sanitised. There is also an extra USB slot so you can use it with a cable to charge another device.
Unfortunately, the charging output (on both the wireless charging and USB) is only 5V, 1A – meaning, it’s a slow charge compared to today’s standard. On my Sansai powerboard with USB, I had the phone battery level increased by 4% in 10 minutes. On the Zendure Passport II Pro, the battery was increased by 2% in 10 minutes.
In a way, you probably won’t buy this gadget for charging alone, but for the portable, handy, sanitising solution. I’d say the wireless charging is just a bonus. You can, technically, sanitise the phone and let it recharged overnight but the unit will emit a few loud beeps when it’s done sanitising. It’s probably not something that you want to hear when you are going to bed.
In the end, this is a cool, useful phone and other items’ sanitiser that is compact and easy to use. Compared to our JJOBI Toy Box Steriliser, this is just so much more portable.
Plus, sanitising your phone every now and then is a neccessity without you realising it. You probably don’t wash your phones or wipe them daily (or even ever?), so having this UV Phone Sanitizer from Zygienic to sanitise your phone every now and then is a must.
The unit has also gone under rigorous testing and the short wavelength of the UV-C light is unable to penetrate through the acrylic material, so the device is definitely safe to use.
And you can use it to sanitise other items that you hold and use frequently too. The UV Phone Sanitizer from Zygienic can be purchased for $89.90 from their website with 60 days exchange/refund policy.
