Pause Fest, the Australia’s premiere digital event, will again be held this year in Melbourne (9-15 February 2015). Pause Fest is basically an event aimed to support and showcase innovation and creativity in technology. The event provides a unique opportunity for industry professionals, thinkers, and early adopters to connect and collaborate together in projects and new ideas.
Pause Fest was started in 2011 and has been growing ever since. At last year’s Pause Fest, in fact, there were over 6,000 people flocking Melbourne’s Federation Square. That is no small feat. We are definitely expecting more people to come this year.
The TAC (Transport Accident Commission) is partnering with Pause Fest this year to create a Hackathon for finding new, creative ideas and solutions to road safety.
The Hackathon will be called “Pause the Road Toll” and be held at The Cube, ACMI, Federation Square, Melbourne on Friday the 13th of February 2015 (from 9 AM to 6 PM). Participants will be introduced to a road safety issue by the TAC and brainstorm conceptual ideas together to find a new, creative solution.
By crowdsourcing for ideas, innovative solutions often come with out-of-box ideas, coming from unexpected solutions. Unlike code-hackathon at Microsoft TechEd, these are purely concepts and ideas brainstorming, no over-night coding or programming is involved. If you are creative, a thinker, a technologist, you are good to hop in!
Now, we are all definitely care about safety issues on the road. We would probably do everything we can to ensure our safety being. Accidents always happen and most of the time, it’s not even caused by our own fault. Car brands like Ford are trying their best for the past few months by developing crash-proof cars with all brand new technologies like Ford MyKey, etc.
The winning idea (individual or team) from “Pause the Road Toll” Hackathon will be awarded $75,000 worth of prizes ($5,000 in cash and another $70,000 of value in professional services to help bring your ideas to reality). The entry is free but places are quite limited, so it’s best for you to register through Eventbrite if you are interested (you’ll be put in the waiting list).
Shelling out ideas with potentials to save lives, getting paid if your ideas are picked, and another to make them into reality? Sounds good to me.
